Alex’s Introduction

Hi! I'm Alexander, and I am an apprentice at W.A.V.E.! I have just teamed up with Dovercourt this past September, and today we worked on problem-solving job improvement skills. As an example, I wrote down the necessary details to tell Ian about a time when I first began my work career at the Rogers Home Video Store on Ogilvie Road. It wasn't a very kind first-time experience to me, so I instead worked at Shoppers Drug Mart in the very same street area. I also participated in an A.L.I.V.E. activity for the gray cottage classroom in the morning. I've also done test tubes two Fridays before this week at the Science Lab University Of Ottawa. We take 3 OC Transpo Bus routes leading all of the way to said destination every Friday to help contribute for a better, more lively society, thus we make our world a better place to live in. The only two times I haven't been to...

Hey, this is Graham again Today, we went to McKellar park to take a lesson on "coping with stress in the workplace", followed by an activity related to it in which we described an event in the past week for us that made us stressed, and described how we dealt with that. Afterwards, we all got put into groups and worked on constructing Hot Chocolate Reindeer bags for an upcoming fundraiser. Basically, part of us took bags with googly eyes and a nose on it and filled each bags with hot chocolate and marshmallows on the top. The other half of us tied each bag with pipe cleaners in order to give the appearance of reindeer antlers. Later on, after lunch, we did job and volunteer searching....

Hey, this is Graham again Today, I took the bus with my group downtown, where we went to the Rideau Shopping Centre to take our resumes and apply for jobs at stores of our choice in the building. We then went across the street to a Dollarama to shop for Christmas craft supplies which, just like when we went to Rideau, didn't take too long because they had just what we needed! When we arrived back at Dovercourt, we did a lesson on proper customer service, followed by a related group activity. After lunch, we then did our usual job searching....

Hey, this is Graham again Today, we started our daily activities off by taking the bus to the Carlingwood Library, where we hung out and read books for half an hour. I took out two books on Metal music and one Alice Cooper CD from the CD section. Once we returned to Dovercourt, we took a snack break, and then worked on a budgeting exercise. Before the budgeting exercise, I went upstairs to the main lobby to buy myself some penne for lunch ahead of time. Once it was ready, I had before starting the budgeting exercise. The budgeting exercise involved us making a list  (using Microsoft Excel) of our personal expenses for an average month, detailing the cost of each expense (depending on how frequently we spend on it), and then finally adding it all together to determine the total amount of the budget for the month. We also did our usual Job and Volunteer Searching session....

Hey, this is Graham Hackett again. Today, my group (group 1) and I walked over to our second base McKellar Park, as usual. While we were there, we learned about "group interviews", and watched a video related to  how to behave during group interviews - a scene from the movie Men In Black! After that, we read some information on "budgeting" and did a budgeting exercise. We then walked back to Dovercourt, had our lunch, and then the members of our group alternated between job searching and manning the WAVE fundraiser, which consisted of  baked goods and crafts in the main lobby. The items that were sold included cupcakes, cookies, Christmas balls, bracelets, special key holders made out of sliced tennis balls, candles, candle holders and Christmas tags! ...
